Our class is going to send out postcards to other schools in the United States so that they can learn about Kansas.

Today it is REALLY WINDY outside! Recess was a little hard today because the dirt is blowing EVERYWHERE! It was REALLY hard to play football today because of the wind! :( We hope that tomorrow is better!

We wanted to let you know that there is a lot of FLAT land in Kansas and no mountains!

We worked on FRACTIONS today! We made FRACTION STRIPS! Yesterday we made MADE COOKIES out of play-dough to work on FAIR SHARES. We also ATE REAL cookies! YUMMMMM!

In Kansas you either LOVE KSTATE or KU! Our class is pretty divided! We have students who LOVE KSTATE and students who LOVE KU! (and we have a few Texas Longhorn fans, NY Yankees, Steelers, and OU fans!)

Kansas is a FUN PLACE TO LIVE! We can't wait to hear from you!

From the 3Z Class that REALLY LOVES Cheese, Steak, BullPups,Pizza, and Cookies!

Christmas in July Linky Party!

Christmas in July!

I love Christmas! I love giving presents! I love books! AND most of all I love that I get to combine these three things in JULY!  This month I participated in a Christmas in July book exchange. This lovely little activity was put together by Randee at How About Them Apples?, Nicole at First Grade OWLS, and Jackie at Here We Go Loopty Loo.  We had to choose a children's book and come up with some activities to go with the it.  I chose to send out the wonderful book "The Party for Papa Luis" by by Diane Gonzales Bertrand and Alejandro Galindo
Product Details

The activities that I share with my new friend, Rebecca, from Create, Teach, Share , were all about fun crafts that you can do with your students as you prepare for a Cinco de Mayo Fiesta or other Mexican Fiesta!

One of my favorite decorations at ANY fiesta is Papel Picado. I found this easy link on making Papel Picado

Papel Picado Banners

My all time favorite activity that I shared with Rebecca is the Mini Sombreros craft from Kaboose! I used just plain white cups and let the kids color them, instead of doing all of the painting! I did this activity with 40 kids...yes, I know...40...and they LOVED it! I loved it!

Enjoy Friends! I think that being able to share different cultures in the classroom is such a priceless gift!

Read Alouds for the Fall

Mrs. Parker at Learning With Mrs. Parker  is having a Fall Read Aloud Linky party. So many choices for Fall Read Alouds! What do I choose? How can I choose? What books do I leave out? I already have six books on my I MUST READ THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL LIST ....think that might be tooo much?

Since I have been out of the classroom for two years I am so excited about the first day of school read alouds! I strongly feel that those first day read alouds can set the tone for the year...oh the pressure!

I as well don't want to just read "back-to-school" books, I also want to share books from Mexico and Brazil, as they are such an important part of my life! Oh the pressure!

Here is where I am at right now....

"Have You Filled a Bucket Today!"
Eight years ago the principal of my school do a book study with everyone using   "How Full Is Your Bucket? Positive Strategies for Work and Life"  I simply thought this was an AMAZING book! Through the reading of this book the culture among the adults at the school changed. People were leaving "drops" for others, encouraging others, and truly understanding what it means to be a "bucket filler."  Fast forward three years we discovered the children's version. I have used it EVERY year since. I have used this book with students from 4years-9th grade and each of them GET IT. It is wonderful to work in a classroom where we have "bucket fillers!"

The Party for Papa Luis/La Fiesta para Papa Luis
This is a billingual book in English and Spanish. The wonderful concept in this book is that each sentence is added to the next sentence, so by the end of the story the students can actually say it along with you in English or in Spanish. This book is a perfect introduction of Mexican culture. We can talk about the party decorations, such as the Pinata. We can discuss the food. We can share some fun words in Spanish and the list goes on and on.

The Name Jar

This is a NEW book for me, I am looking forward to using this book on the first day!

Oh The Places You'll Go!

I LOVE this book! This is one of those PERFECT books for the begiing of the year and the end of the year! The theme I choose for my classroom this year is "Oh The Places You'll Go!" I am thrilled with this theme and can't wait to jump in on the first day and discuss what "places" we want to go to during the year!

Can't wait to keep discovering new books through the this party!

Make sure you follow along and see what other new books you will discover!

Read Alouds for Fall Linky Party

Feliz Dia!

The Blog World

I have taught for 10 years in Mexico and 3 years in Brazil. I am THRILLED that I will be starting my first job in the good ole USA on August 1! I took a two year hiatus from teaching as I adjusted back to life in the USA. Now that I am heading back to the classroom I have been scouring the web for new ideas and have discovered the wonderful world of teaching blogs! I am quickly becoming a Teaching Blog Addict!

I look forward to sharing how I am growing as a third grade teacher, what I am learning, the cool things I learn from other teachers, and the excitement of my students.

Feliz Dia a todos!
